As the only Independent Girls Preparatory school in our area, we are in the unique position of providing an excellent junior educational experience with the specific aim of preparing girls for top senior schools, often with scholarships. The whole staff share a common educational vision with high expectations; the children’s enthusiasm and joy in learning is palpable.

Small classes enable us to focus on the child as an individual, building confidence academically and in the important life-enhancing areas of communication skills, music, sport and the arts. Specialist teaching results in increased depth in a wide range of subjects; our inspection described the teaching as inspirational and outstanding; standards and results speak for themselves. We are proud of our close relationship with parents, believing that greatest success educationally for a child comes from a strong liaison between home and school.

Asked why I still want to be a headmistress in these increasingly difficult and unstable times for education, I say what I have always said: for me the greatest sense of achievement and ‘job satisfaction’ comes from seeing happy, enthusiastic children bouncing in to school, eager to learn. This is what I see every day at St Hilda’s.
